Patientell

The best dental review software for solo practices (2026)

Full disclosure: we make Patientell, so yes, we're biased. We'll tell you what we'd actually use at a one-doctor office, including tools that aren't ours and the one that's free. Short version: you don't need a $400/month platform to get reviews. You need someone to ask every patient, every day.

TL;DR

At a solo practice, the bottleneck isn't software, it's the ask. Start with your free Google review link for a month. If the front desk can't keep it up, automate it with a tool that texts every patient after their visit. Don't sign a 12-month contract for features you'll never open.

  • Best free option: your Google review link
  • Best for more, longer reviews: Patientell (ours). Reviews-only, no contract
  • Best if you want a free trial first: Swell
  • Best if you also need phones: Weave

What a solo practice actually needs

  1. An ask after every visit. Automatic, so it happens on busy days.
  2. Reviews that say something. "Dr. Patel was gentle and explained everything" does more for a solo practice than "Great!" because patients are choosing a person, not a brand.
  3. No contract. You're a small business. Month-to-month lets you walk away if it doesn't work.

You probably don't need multi-location dashboards, listings management, competitor benchmarking or chatbots. Those are real features, just not for you.

1. Your free Google review link

All on your front desk.

Every Google Business Profile has a free review link and QR code. Print it on a card, put it at checkout, and have the front desk ask every patient before they leave. It costs nothing and it works better than most people expect, as long as your team actually asks.

The problem is consistency. On a busy Monday nobody asks, there's no follow-up text, and you have no idea who was asked and who wasn't.

Best for
solo offices that want more reviews and longer ones
Price
Quote. No contracts, no setup fees.
Connects to
Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Open Dental, Oryx, Eaglesoft, Denticon, Curve Hero, eClinicalWorks and many more.

This is ours. Patientell connects to your practice software (Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Oryx and many more) and texts every patient after their appointment, at the time they're most likely to respond, and our patent-pending flow is built to get a detailed review instead of a one-liner. You can also put a QR at checkout.

No contract, no setup fee, live in under 24 hours. What it won't do: phones, scheduling, forms or payments.

Per location. Dental association offers have run $179–$249/mo, often with 30 days free.
Connects to
PMS/EHR integration included in every plan.

Swell is dental-focused, includes PMS integration in every plan, and dental association offers have run $179–$249/month with 30 days free. If you want to test automation without a sales call, that free month is a real advantage over us.

Its product leans toward multi-location groups, so you'll see features you won't use.

4. Weave

Best for
solo offices that are replacing their phone system anyway
Price
Quote. Third-party reports put most dental offices around $250–$450/mo per location, plus a setup fee.
Connects to
Dentrix (including Ascend and Enterprise), Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Denticon, Curve, SoftDent and more.

If your phones are old and you're shopping for a new system, Weave bundles phones, texting, reminders, forms and payments, with review requests included. For a solo office that's one vendor for the whole front desk.

If your phones are fine, it's a lot of money for review requests.

Our pick

Try the free link for a month. Count how many reviews you get. If the front desk kept it up and you're happy, you're done. If they didn't (most don't), automate it. If you want the most detailed reviews, try us. If you want a free month before you talk to anyone, try Swell.

What we'd do today

  1. Get your review link from your Google Business Profile and print it as a QR card for the front desk.
  2. Write a one-line script: "If you have ten seconds, a Google review really helps a small office like ours."
  3. Count your Google reviews today, and again in 30 days. That number decides whether you need software.

Questions

How many Google reviews does a solo dental practice need?

There's no magic number. Look at the top three practices in your area on Google Maps. Getting close to their count, with a steady trickle of recent reviews, matters more than any target.

Can we only send review requests to happy patients?

No, and you shouldn't want to. Google's review policy says businesses must not selectively ask happy customers for reviews (called review gating), and the FTC's 2024 rule on consumer reviews cracks down on suppressing negative ones. Ask every patient. Any vendor that offers to filter unhappy patients away from Google is putting your profile at risk.

Is it safe to reply to patient reviews?

Yes, but never confirm that the reviewer is a patient or mention their treatment, even if they did first. HHS has fined dental practices for revealing patient information in review replies. Keep it to "Thanks for the kind words, we're glad you had a good experience." Whatever AI reply tool you use, including ours, have a human read every draft before it posts.

Does Patientell work with my practice management system?

Very likely. Patientell connects to Dentrix through a direct on-prem agent, Open Dental through its API, and Oryx through a cloud report sync. We also support Eaglesoft, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Denticon, Curve Hero, eClinicalWorks and many more. If your system isn't listed, ask us. Where there's no integration, the QR flow at checkout works on any system.

We checked prices and features for every product here in October 2026. Most of these vendors don't publish prices, so ranges come from third-party reports. This stuff changes constantly, so confirm with each vendor before you sign anything. And we're not your lawyer or compliance officer.
