Patientell

The best Birdeye alternatives for dental practices (2026)

Full disclosure: we make Patientell, so yes, we're biased. Birdeye is a strong product for marketing teams and big groups. Most dental offices that leave it aren't unhappy with what it does. They're paying for more than they use.

TL;DR

If you mostly care about Google reviews, a focused review tool will usually cost less and be simpler. If you're a dental group that wants multi-site reviews without the enterprise weight, Swell is the closest dental-specific swap. If you need listings and twenty review sites, stay with Birdeye.

  • Best for dental groups: Swell
  • Best for more, longer Google reviews: Patientell (ours)
  • Best if you also want phones and texting: Weave
  • Best free starting point: your Google review link

Why dental practices look for a Birdeye alternative

  • Cost and contract. Third-party reports put Birdeye around $299–$449/month per location on annual terms, plus onboarding.
  • Complexity. Listings, social, surveys, chatbots, benchmarking. A single office often uses only review requests.
  • It's not dental-first. It serves every industry. Dental-specific tools think in providers and appointments.

1. Swell

Best for
dental groups that want multi-site reviews without enterprise weight
Price
Per location. Dental association offers have run $179–$249/mo, often with 30 days free.
Connects to
PMS/EHR integration included in every plan.

Swell is the most direct dental-specific alternative: reviews on Google and other sites, AI-drafted replies, surveys and roll-ups by location and provider. PMS integration is included in every plan.

You give up Birdeye's listings management and broader benchmarking.

2. PatientellOurs

Best for
practices where Google is the review site that matters
Price
Quote. No contracts, no setup fees.
Connects to
Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Open Dental, Oryx, Eaglesoft, Denticon, Curve Hero, eClinicalWorks and many more.

This is ours. Patientell focuses on one job: getting more patients to leave detailed Google reviews, using a patent-pending flow. Automated texts from your practice software (Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft and many more), or QR at checkout.

What you give up: Healthgrades, Yelp and listings. If those matter in your market, Patientell alone won't cover it.

3. Weave

Best for
offices that would rather get reviews from their phone and texting system
Price
Quote. Third-party reports put most dental offices around $250–$450/mo per location, plus a setup fee.
Connects to
Dentrix (including Ascend and Enterprise), Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Denticon, Curve, SoftDent and more.

If you're consolidating vendors, Weave includes review requests alongside phones, texting, reminders, forms and payments. Its review monitoring is narrower than Birdeye's, but for one office that's often fine.

4. Your free Google review link

Best for
single offices that want to test whether they need software at all
Price
Free
Effort
All on your team. No automation, no reminders, no reporting.

Your Google Business Profile gives you a free review link and QR code. Put it on a card at checkout and have the front desk ask every patient. It's surprisingly effective when the team is consistent, and it costs nothing.

The problem is consistency. On a busy day nobody asks, and there's no follow-up text.

When to stay with Birdeye

If you're a large group with a marketing team that uses listings, multi-site monitoring and benchmarking, Birdeye is doing its job. None of the alternatives above replace all of that.

Our pick

Dental group that wants surveys and multi-site reviews: Swell. Practice or group that mostly cares about Google: Patientell. Not sure you need software: start with the free link for a month.

What we'd do today

  1. Log into Birdeye and list the features you used last month. That's your real requirement list.
  2. Search "dentist near me" and see which review sites show up. If it's only Google, you can simplify.
  3. Find your renewal date and the notice period before you start demos.

Questions

What's the cheapest Birdeye alternative?

Your free Google review link. Among paid tools, Swell's dental offers have been among the lowest in this category.

Will I lose my reviews if I leave Birdeye?

No. Your Google reviews live on Google, not in Birdeye. You'll lose Birdeye's reporting history, so export it first.

Does Patientell work with my practice management system?

Very likely. Patientell connects to Dentrix through a direct on-prem agent, Open Dental through its API, and Oryx through a cloud report sync. We also support Eaglesoft, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Denticon, Curve Hero, eClinicalWorks and many more. If your system isn't listed, ask us. Where there's no integration, the QR flow at checkout works on any system.

Can we only send review requests to happy patients?

No, and you shouldn't want to. Google's review policy says businesses must not selectively ask happy customers for reviews (called review gating), and the FTC's 2024 rule on consumer reviews cracks down on suppressing negative ones. Ask every patient. Any vendor that offers to filter unhappy patients away from Google is putting your profile at risk.

We checked prices and features for every product here in October 2026. Most of these vendors don't publish prices, so ranges come from third-party reports. This stuff changes constantly, so confirm with each vendor before you sign anything. And we're not your lawyer or compliance officer.
