The best review software for DSOs and dental groups (2026)
Full disclosure: we make Patientell, so yes, we're biased. For some DSOs we're the right pick, and for some we're not. The deciding questions are which practice management systems you're on, what your compliance team will sign off on, and whether you want reviews only or a full patient-experience program.
TL;DR
A DSO needs review requests that fire automatically at every office, roll-ups by location and provider, replies that don't leak patient information, and a vendor your compliance team will approve. If Google review volume and depth are the goal, us: we connect to Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Oryx, Denticon, Curve Hero and many more, so one tool can cover a mixed group. If you want surveys and employee feedback too, Swell. If you're a large group with a marketing team, Birdeye.
- Best for Google review volume and depth across a mixed group: Patientell (ours)
- Best for a full patient-experience program: Swell
- Best for large groups with a marketing team: Birdeye
- Best if you're standardizing phones too: Weave
The picks at a glance

What changes when you have 10+ offices
- PMS coverage. Acquired practices bring their own systems. A tool that only automates half your offices means half your offices fall back to the front desk remembering.
- Roll-ups. Regional managers need to see review count, rating and response rate by office and provider.
- Compliance. Someone will ask about HIPAA, BAAs and where data lives. Get that answered before the pilot, not after.
- Reply discipline. At scale, someone will eventually reply "Sorry about your root canal" and reveal a patient's treatment. AI drafts plus a human approval step is the safest setup.
1. Swell
- Best for
- DSOs that want reviews, surveys and employee feedback in one platform
- Price
- Per location. Dental association offers have run $179–$249/mo, often with 30 days free.
- Connects to
- PMS/EHR integration included in every plan.
Swell is built for exactly this: location, provider and brand roll-ups, AI-drafted replies for one-click approval, patient surveys and employee feedback. PMS integration is included in every plan, and it markets HIPAA-compliant workflows.
It's our closest competitor. If your ops team wants a full patient-experience program, not just reviews, we think it's the better fit.
2. Birdeye
- Best for
- large groups with a marketing team that wants everything
- Price
- Quote. Third-party reports put it around $299–$449/mo per location on annual contracts, with onboarding fees.
- Connects to
- Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental and thousands of other apps.
Birdeye goes broader: dozens of review sites, listings management, competitor benchmarking and enterprise reporting. If your marketing director wants one platform for local presence across 50 offices, this is it.
It's priced and contracted like enterprise software, per third-party reports.
3. PatientellOurs
- Best for
- groups on any major PMS whose Google reviews are short and generic
- Price
- Quote. No contracts, no setup fees.
- Connects to
- Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Open Dental, Oryx, Eaglesoft, Denticon, Curve Hero, eClinicalWorks and many more.
This is ours. Patientell connects to Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Open Dental, Oryx, Eaglesoft, Denticon, Curve Hero, eClinicalWorks and many more, so acquired offices don't need to switch systems to get on the same review program. It has a multi-location dashboard, custom questions per office, AI reply drafts, and a patent-pending review flow built to get detailed reviews that name your providers.
The honest limits for a DSO: we're Google-focused, we don't do surveys or employee feedback, and Patientell is designed not to handle protected health information. If your compliance team requires a BAA, raise it with us before a pilot.
4. Weave
- Best for
- groups standardizing phones and texting across every office
- Price
- Quote. Third-party reports put most dental offices around $250–$450/mo per location, plus a setup fee.
- Connects to
- Dentrix (including Ascend and Enterprise), Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Denticon, Curve, SoftDent and more.
If the bigger project is getting every office on the same phones and texting, Weave does that with review requests included, and it supports Dentrix Enterprise and most other dental PMSs. Its review analytics are lighter than Swell's or Birdeye's.
Our pick
If the goal is more and better Google reviews across every office: pilot us at two or three offices against your current tool and compare. Want surveys and employee feedback too: Swell. Big group with a marketing team: Birdeye.
What we'd do today
- List every office and its practice management system. That list eliminates half the options.
- Ask your compliance lead what they need from a review vendor (BAA, SOC 2, data location) and send it to every vendor up front.
- Pilot at three offices for 60 days. Compare review count, average length, and provider mentions, not just star rating.
Questions
Should a DSO use one review tool across every office?
Yes, if you can. One tool means one dashboard, one reply process and comparable numbers. The catch is PMS coverage: pick a tool that automates every office you have.
Is it safe to reply to patient reviews?
Yes, but never confirm that the reviewer is a patient or mention their treatment, even if they did first. HHS has fined dental practices for revealing patient information in review replies. Keep it to "Thanks for the kind words, we're glad you had a good experience." Whatever AI reply tool you use, including ours, have a human read every draft before it posts.
Can we only send review requests to happy patients?
No, and you shouldn't want to. Google's review policy says businesses must not selectively ask happy customers for reviews (called review gating), and the FTC's 2024 rule on consumer reviews cracks down on suppressing negative ones. Ask every patient. Any vendor that offers to filter unhappy patients away from Google is putting your profile at risk.
Where do Patientell's numbers come from?
One real dental practice that switched to Patientell from a large review vendor: 2.1× more reviews per month, reviews 2–10× longer, 12× more staff mentions, and 82% fewer one-star reviews year over year. It's one practice, not a controlled study, and we don't name the previous vendor. See the full data.
Try Patientell
Patent-pending review system for dental practices. Works with Dentrix, Open Dental, Oryx, Eaglesoft and many more. No contracts, no setup fees, live in under 24 hours.
We checked prices and features for every product here in October 2026. Most of these vendors don't publish prices, so ranges come from third-party reports. This stuff changes constantly, so confirm with each vendor before you sign anything. And we're not your lawyer or compliance officer.
